How to Pick the Correct Harness Size for Your Service Dog
Choosing the right harness size is essential for comfort and safety. Measure your dog’s chest girth with a tape measure—two fingers should fit between the tape and your dog’s body. The harness should not pinch the neck or shoulders; if the skin bunches, the size is too small.
If you’re between two sizes, choose the smaller option – the tactical harness is highly adjustable. Note that tactical vests are not made for extra-small or toy breeds. For small dogs, we recommend our classic ADA vest.
Leash size references can be found in the infographic below.

Please note that breed sizes are approximate, and we recommend measuring your dog’s dimensions using our size chart. The XL size is designed for giant breeds, so if your dog is not among the largest breeds, you may not need the biggest size.
How to Get a Service Dog Tactical Harness
- Select the harness size that matches your dog’s measurements.
- Add the harness to your cart and proceed to checkout.
- Enter shipping and billing details, then pay by card or PayPal.
- We process your order and ship it to the address you provide.
Ordering online is fast, safe, and often more affordable than buying local ADA-style vests.
How to Adjust the Harness Straps

Can I order a Service Dog vest without registration or a doctor’s letter?
Yes. Anyone may purchase a service dog harness; no registration or doctor’s letter is required. Please note that gear alone does not make an animal a service dog—the animal must perform disability-mitigating tasks, and some accommodations may require a valid doctor’s letter.
Is a tactical ADA dog harness mandatory?
No. A harness is not legally required, but many handlers use it to improve visibility, control, and public understanding. Check your local regulations for specific rules.
